What is Dua e Hajat? Is it in the Quran or in Hadith?
Dua e Hajat is a special prayer (supplication) that a Muslim makes when they have a personal need, a wish, or when they are going through a difficult time. The word “Hajat” means “need” or “requirement” in Arabic. So, Dua e Hajat means a prayer you make when you really need help from Allah (God).
This dua is not directly found in the Qur’an, but it is mentioned in Hadith — the sayings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
According to an authentic Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah (Hadith 1385), the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“If anyone has a need with Allah or with any human being, let him perform wudu (ablution) properly, then pray two rak‘ah (units of prayer), then praise Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, and then say the following Dua…”
After the two rak‘ahs and the dua, a person can ask for their need sincerely.

Dua e Hajat – English Pronunciation (Transliteration)
Allahumma inni as’aluka wa atawajjahu ilayka binabiyyika Muhammadin nabiyyir-rahmah. Ya Muhammad, inni atawajjahu bika ila Rabbi fi haajati haazihi lituqdaa li. Allahumma fashaffi‘hu fiyya.

“O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn with you to my Lord concerning this need of mine so that it may be fulfilled. O Allah, accept his intercession for me.”

“ऐ अल्लाह! मैं तुझसे सवाल करता हूँ और तेरे नबी मोहम्मद (रहमत वाले नबी) के वसीले से तुझसे रुजू करता हूँ। ऐ मोहम्मद! मैं तेरे ज़रिये अपने रब की बारगाह में अपनी इस हाजत को पेश करता हूँ ताकि मेरी हाजत पूरी हो जाए। ऐ अल्लाह! उनकी सिफारिश को मेरे हक में कबूल फरमा।”
Dua e Hajat – Translation in Urdu
“اے اللہ! میں تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں اور تیرے نبی محمد ﷺ نبیِ رحمت کے وسیلے سے تیری طرف رجوع کرتا ہوں۔ اے محمد! میں تمہارے ذریعے اپنے رب کی طرف اس حاجت کے لیے رجوع کرتا ہوں تاکہ یہ پوری ہو جائے۔ اے اللہ! ان کی شفاعت میرے حق میں قبول فرما۔”

This dua is mentioned in several authentic narrations. One of the most cited is from Sunan Tirmidhi (Hadith 3578) and Ibn Majah (Hadith 1385):

Is this type of Tawassul allowed?
This hadith is used by scholars to prove that seeking help from Allah through the status (wasilah) of the Prophet ﷺ is permissible, as long as the belief is clear that only Allah fulfills needs. The Tawassul here is not worshiping the Prophet ﷺ, but asking Allah through the Prophet’s closeness to Him.
Important Note:
Some scholars limit this Tawassul to the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ, while others say the dua is valid even after his passing, as long as the intention is to ask Allah and not pray to the Prophet ﷺ himself. There is scholarly difference on this point.

Though the exact words of Dua e Hajat are not in the Quran, the concept of asking Allah for help directly and sincerely is well established:
Surah Al-Baqarah – 2:186 “And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.”
